Conversations With My Sister: A Fool’s Journey Through the Tarot to be released on April 1st—no fooling
FULTON, Missouri, March 27, 2019 — On April 1, 2019 Sweetspire Press will release Conversations With My Sister: A Fool’s Journey Through the Tarot (ISBN: 978-1-7329826-2-8) by Annie Carmitchell. Part tarot primer, part memoir, this illustrated collection of humorous essays takes the reader on an unexpectedly funny and fearlessly frank journey through the tarot deck.
Annie Carmitchell often uses her tarot decks as a tool for spiritual guidance, and during a late-night chat with her sister it occurred to her that almost every shared memory reminded her of a particular tarot card. Friends had long urged Carmitchell to write a book, and she had finally found her hook. Two years and many sisterly conversations later, the 310-page, illustrated book of 58 “fun-sized” chapters, each relating a tarot card to a story from her own life, is ready for publication.
Few topics are off limits. Carmitchell tackles IBS in the “The St. Valentine’s Day Massacre” (Four of Wands card), recalls an embarrassing doctor visit in “My, How You’ve Grown” (the Lovers card), and recounts a brush with danger in “The Sky Ride” (the Hanged Man card). Though most chapters are light-hearted, some of the book’s more reflective passages touch upon her sister’s coming out, their parents’ deaths, and an experience with past life regression.
Conversations With My Sister: A Fool's Journey Through the Tarot will be available in both paperback and ebook editions through Amazon, Barnes and Noble (online), and IndieBound.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Annie Carmitchell is a retired eighth-grade English teacher, Presbyterian deacon, and tarot enthusiast. She enjoys performing with her sister as half of the Carmitchell Sisters acoustic duo, though they seldom heed one cranky listener’s advice to “cut the schtick and just play the music.” Annie lives in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, with her partner Bill, their dogs Maggie and Emma, their cat Olivia de Havilland, and their parakeets, the ULBs.
